Bio/Research

Dr. Bardecki is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). He has also held conjunct and associate positions at the University of Waterloo, Trent University and York University. Dr. Bardecki holds B.A. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Guelph and a Ph.D. from York University. He is the author or co-author of over 120 published papers and reports.

His principal supervision of graduate students has been through TMU’s Environmental Applied Science and Management graduate programs. He has supervised more than 40 graduate students over the last 20 years and, in the same period, was involved in over 100 other graduate examinations.

Dr. Bardecki played an instrumental role in the initiation of curriculum development and subsequent approval of TMU’s undergraduate program in Environment and Urban Sustainability. He also played a key part in the development of TMU's graduate programs in Environmental Applied Science and Management and he served as the Director from 2009 to 2015 and again in 2017.

As a co-author of the first IPCC report on climate change in 1991, Dr. Bardecki received a commendation from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007 for contributing to the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the IPCC. He has also received the Jim Peffers Award for “extraordinary contribution to interuniversity sports” at Toronto Metropolitan University.
