Bio/Research

My research interests currently relate to intersectoral collaboration and service integration, educational performance of youth in care, residential care, social pedagogy and youth entrepreneurship, as well as social innovation. I also maintain an on-going interest in and research about child and youth care specific approaches to human resource management, professional development and organizational structures.

I am frequently asked to provide training and consulting services to child and youth serving organizations in Canada and around the world. Most recently, I was appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services to serve on an expert panel reviewing all residential services in the province. I am committed to maintaining a global perspective on child and youth care practice, and to this end, I regularly travel and visit service sites related to children and youth facing unique challenges around the world. Most recently, I have explored the situation for children and youth and related service contexts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United States, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

I am the co-editor of Child & Youth Services, an international journal about issues and themes related to vulnerable children and youth around the world. The journal is owned by Taylor & Francis, one of the largest academic publishers in the world. I am also a regular columnist for the International Child and Youth Care Network. My columns can be accessed on CYC Net at www.cyc-net.org.
