Dr. Jean Li received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in the art and archaeology of ancient Egypt. Her research on the mortuary practices of elite women in ancient Egypt during the first millennium BCE seeks to enhance nuances of the traditional depiction of Egyptian women as deriving their identities primarily in relation to men. Dr. Li’s research also applies contemporary anthropological and archaeological theoretical frameworks to the study of ancient material culture. Her book, Women, Gender and Identity in Third Intermediate Period Egypt: The Theban Case Study was published by Routledge in 2017.
