Bio/Research

Dafna Sussman holds a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science (Physics) with honours and a Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics and Clinical Imaging from the University of Toronto, as well as an M.Sc. in Biophysics and Biophotonics from the University of Waterloo. Her industrial engineering experience includes working as an optical engineer, designing telescope components, at the National Research Council. Dr. Sussman completed postdoctoral fellowships in Diagnostic Imaging and in Translational Medicine, both at the Hospital for Sick Children. She joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) as an Assistant Professor in August 2017.

Her research explores the use of Magnetic Resonance tools to probe maternal-fetal interaction and understand factors that alter maternal blood flow, placental oxygen delivery and metabolism, and fetal development. This work is conducted closely with obstetricians from Mount Sinai Hospital and fetal cardiologists from The Hospital for Sick Children.
